LONDON – Two British citizens, happened to be real brothers, have been jailed for attending a terror training camp in Syria, PakistanTribe learnt from international media reports.
Mohommod Nawaz, 30, was jailed for four-and-a-half years and his younger brother Hamza Nawaz, 24, was given three years at the Old Bailey on Thursday.
The brothers brought back bullets and took the pictures on their mobile phones to remember their time in the jihadist camp – which were later found by police and used to prove their guilt.
The court heard that the brothers only came back to London because Mohommod was missing his girlfriend, who had agreed to marry him while he was away.
Photos from the brother’s phones showed the strict daily schedule at the camp included two sessions of ‘military training’, two sessions of ‘Islamic lessons’ and ‘lights out’ at 10pm.The day began at 4.30am with prayers, followed by physical training from 6am to 8am. There would be ‘military training’ twice a day and further Islamic lessons before bed.
The court heard the brothers lived together in Stratford, east London but headed out the the war-torn country last year.Police discovered they had traveled from east London to Lyon through the Channel Tunnel and from there to Istanbul and on to Southern Turkey, close to the rebel held area of Syria.
Photographs from the phones showed road signs that proved they had crossed into Syria where Mohommod was photographed with an AK-47 at a training camp.
The exact spot where two brothers posed for photographs at a training camp has been identified by RAF experts using the latest in satellite mapping technology.
