SARGODHA – The Punjab chapter of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) jumps in to provide cover for the medical team who are allegedly responsible for the death of more than 25 infants.
PMA’s representative Dr Sikandar Warraich had his own logic while stating that if the Punjab government initiates criminal proceedings against the medical team of the paediatrics ward of the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Sargodha or any member is arrested, the association would stage a protest and stop working in all the public hospitals across the province.
Warraich went ahead and denied that no probe committee so far had held medical experts of DHQ hospital responsible for the deaths. “Five incubators were functioning properly and oxygen was available in the hospital and children were treated properly,” he added.
He alleged that newborns were brought in a critical condition due to mishandling by quacks and DHQ Hospital could not be blamed for it.
Not to forget that an inquiry is under way against 11 doctors including four consultants, including Dr Rabia Hashim, Khwaja Muhammad Arshad (teaching hospital), Dr Ataullah Niazi, Dr Arshad Rauf (DHQ Hospital) and seven duty doctors and nursing staff.
