ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Federal Government has announced subsidize rates for the farmers of Pakistan according to which there per unit cost is set on Rs 10.35.
The Ministry of Power and Electricity has notified all electricity power Distribution Companies (DisCos) to immediately apply these rates for the agriculture consumers. The rates will be applied from 1st July 2014 to 30th June 2015.
According to the official communique, The relief package was approved by the Economic Coordination Committee in its meeting yesterday. Under the relief package, farming Community in all the Distribution Companies except Quetta Electricity Supply Company will be charged at a fixed rate of 10.35 rupees per unit and that arrangement will be applicable from 1.07.2014 till 30.06.2015.
Farmers in the QUESCOs jurisdiction are already provided subsidy through a separate mechanism. The Federal Government will pay the subsidy arising as a result of the relief.
During peak hours from 6 pm to 10 pm in winter and 5 PM to 11 PM in summer, the agriculture tubewells will not be entitled for power supply. GST will be paid to the DISCOs by the respective Provincial Governments. Fuel Price Adjustment will be borne by the Federal Government.
