ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government decides to give power sector a priority in supplying natural gas over domestic and industrial consumers.
According to an official communique issued on Thursday, this decision was taken after the meeting of a sub-committee on Energy.
The sub-committee held a meeting presided by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to discuss the Gas Management Plan during freezing winters. Although the meeting was aimed to make a well balanced distribution plan but it was concluded with a note to prioritize power sector.
The focus of discussion during the meeting mainly revolved around import of 600 mmcfd of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This quantity will be divided between Sui Southern Gas and Sui Northern Gas for production of around two thousand eight hundred megawatts of electricity on average when supplied to different power plants.
It was also decided that after the import of LNG expensive diesel run plants will only be used during the peak periods so as to save the people from inconvenience due to power outages.
