ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is seemingly under the fear of losing power on already crippled rule thus not transferring authority to his own Federal Minister of Inter Provincial Coordination, PakistanTribe learnt from a sources in Cabinet Division.
The claim was put forward by none other than the Federal Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada himself. He informed Senate’s Standing Committee that reason for depriving him and his ministry from the required authority was a fear that it would turn into a powerful organ.
When approached, at least one source in Cabinet Division (a section officer), confirmed the statement. “Imagine the power of a minister who would be the constitutional head of all chief ministers. How could someone let this happen? Specially the one with a lust of power and a habit of keeping all final decision making powers under his own thumb,” source told PakistanTribe‘s correspondent.
Pirzada was attending the meeting of Senate’s Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination. The session was presided by Senator Farah Aqil of Awami National Party (ANP). The members of standing committee were left in shock when Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) minister himself started criticizing his own leadership.
He claimed “I am not even given a separate block for my ministry’s secretariat. It is only due to a fear of this ministry transforming into a power hub. If Nawaz Sharif has trust deficit then bring someone worthy of it but let it (ministry) function.”
Pirzada also claimed that only Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch entertains his calls and request in an official authority. Even the Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif – who hails from the same political part – does not pick his phone calls.
Federal Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada did not respond to PakistanTribe‘s correspondent for a direct comment on this issue until the publishing of this news report.
The ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination is a constitutional body with its roots in the constitution of 1973. Its rules of business as per amended in 2013 are:
- General coordination between the Federal Government and the Provinces in the economic, cultural and administrative fields
- Promoting uniformity of approach in formulation of policy and implementation among the Provinces and the Federal Government in all fields of common concern.
- Discussions of policy issues emanating from the Provinces which have administrative or economic implications for the country as a whole.
The statement of Pirzada criticizing his own leadership has emerged only a few days after secret agencies’ warning to PML-N federal government that a rebellion in its own lines could be a possible scenario amid Imran Khan‘s post 30 November agitation plan.
