RAWALPINDI – The US Senators has acknowledged the efforts of Pakistan Armed Forces to fight the menace of terrorism and expressed a desire to establish stronger bilateral relations with Pakistan.
According to an official communique issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif met the US Senators accompanied by his delegation and Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani.
The US Senators, who met the Pakistani officials, were the members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Intelligence.
According to ISPR, US Senators acknowledged that due to the successful operations of the Pakistani security forces, militants’ command and control infrastructure had been destroyed in North Waziristan, terrorist network had been degraded and Army’s Operational gains were appreciable. Expressing Pakistan’s resolve to continue this operation till elimination of the last terrorist, General Raheel underlined that Pakistan military was confident to hold their gains in FATA to ensure that terrorists would not be able to return or establish their operational basis on the Pakistani soil. General Raheel also briefed the Senators about Pakistan’s plans to rehabilitate the dislocated people from Waziristan at the earliest possible.
Earlier, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chair of the Select Intelligence Committee along with other key members exchanged views with General Raheel Sharif and his delegation. Both sides discussed a range of issues in bilateral security cooperation and expressed a strong desire to continue and intensify this partnership in the coming months.
