ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Federal Government is now following the footsteps of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial government to kick start more electricity power generation projects.
Only after 5 days of announcement by PTI lead government in Khyber Pakhtukhwa (KP) to initiate hundreds of hydro electric power generation projects across province, PML-N federal minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif inked an agreement to kick start Thar Coal electric power generation of 660 MW.
The agreement was signed between the concern ministry and Engo private limited on Thursday. The private group will be utilizing the Thar’s coal reserves to produce electricity. Official communique termed this agreement as ‘Letter of Interest’.
Speaking on the occasion Khawaja Muhammad Asif said “We have ended the controversies on Thar Coal project.” he also maintained that due to malfunctioning in distribution mechanism country is facing the loss of 2000 to 2500 MW electricity everyday.
Not to forget that earlier this year Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari had laid the foundation of Rs 1.6 billion power generation project in Thar. The project was scheduled to be completed by 2017.
