NEW YORK – Pakistan ranks third out of 162 countries in the global terrorism index only after Iraq (first) and Afghanistan (second), PakistanTribe learnt from international media reports.
According to the media reports, Pakistan has been placed at third position out of 162 countries in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2013. This shows that the country is bearing the highest impact of terrorism after Iraq and Afghanistan.
The report said that Iraq was the country hit hardest by terrorism with 2,492 attacks that killed more than 6,300 people and Pakistan ranked third with 2345 victims.
The index scores 162 countries, covering 99.6 per cent of the world’s population, and examines trends from 2000 to 2013.
According to GTI Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) between 2000 and 2013 has claimed 778 attacks, of which 12 per cent were carried out by suicide bombers.
Over 80 per cent of the deaths from terrorist attacks in 2013 were in just five countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and Syria.
