MULTAN – Just when different political corners of Pakistan are raising voice in favor of mid-term elections, the former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani maintains that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is prepared take on any elections.
Although PPP could not get the majority in 2013 general elections but this statement from senior party leader carries some weight.
Gilani, while talking to media persons, said that PPP is playing positive role in the opposition. “We will not take part in any agitation that would derail the democracy in Pakistan. PPP has always stood with democracy. Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for sake of democracy,” he added.
He also said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari – chairman of PPP – is representing the country’s youth which are 65 per cent of population.
Not to forget that in a recent television interview, former President of Pakistan General (rtd.) Pervez Musharraf claimed that there would be mid-term elections in country within next one year.
Moreover, the leaders of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had time and again demanded formation of national government which then conducts the free and fair elections in the country.
