ISLAMABAD – The interim Director General of Passport Services Muhammad Safdar has claimed that within past 16 months 6 million new passports are being issued to Pakistanis.
Safdar was briefing the Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior over the facilities and progress of Passport Department. The Standing Committee’s session was presided by Senator Talha Mehmood.
Committee was informed that after the installation of new state of the art machines, department had increased its capacity to issue new passports.
Speaking about the installation of passport services in Pakistani embassies in different countries, Safdar states that within next one year 56 foreign mission will be provided the computerized passport issuing machines.
He also informed the committee that currently passport department’s man power is short by 500 employees.
