ISLAMABAD – Annual Book Fair 2014 was arranged at National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad, to revive the tradition and love of book reading among the young generation and especially students.
The Annual Book Fair was arranged by the NUML Office of Research, Innovations and Commercialization (NORIC) in which a total of thirteen (13) book publishers/vendors showcased the wide variety of books on the topics including literature, linguistics, Management Sciences, Engineering, Information Technology, International Relations, Mass Communication, Islamic Studies and Economics. The Book Fair was inaugurated by Chairman National Academy of Letter, Sheraz Latif along with Director General (DG) NUML Brig Azam Jamal by cutting the ribbon.
Speaking at the occasion Chairman National Academy of Letters (NAL), Sheraz Latif, said there was no greater pleasure than reading books in ones leisure time. The current boost in technology had made it easier for students to get access to the e-books of their interest but the pleasure and the contentment was connected with the hard copy of a book was inexplicable.
Mr Latif said that NAL owned and appreciated this initiative by the NORIC to hold Book Fair and guide and facilitate the students to enhance their intimacy with books as romance with a book makes you more open, accommodating and proactive towards the world and society around you. Read books and add into the lot that was more caring and compassionate towards ones counterpart, he added.
Gulfam Khan Khalid, Manager University Industry Linkages of NORIC while talking to scribe said that the purpose of this Book Fair was to promote academic and non-academic reading habits among students, to establish an on-campus facility for students and faculty members to recommend some good books for library and initiate it as annual or biannual tradition in the university.
Fatima Hassan Zaidi, a student of BS Mass Communication said that she dreamt to be a bibliophile as she knows the love of book was like the love of a mother. As a mother rears, facilitates, guides and gives identity to her children, a book rears, facilitates, guides and gives you identity. The subject I was studying made it imperative to have extensive reading and knowledge and it was always books that help me out now and in my future profession, she admitted.
The Chairman NAL Sheraz Latif and DG Brig Azam Jamal also visited the different book stalls and appreciated the books covering wide variety of subjects and themes. Later Chairman NAL also visited the different departments of the university including NUML Writing Resource Centre, Library and urged to develop closed links between NAL and NUML. The Book fair was also visited by large number of deans, heads, faculty members, students and staff members and they picked books of their interests. The Book Fair will continue for two days and it will be closed tomorrow evening at 5 pm.
