KARACHI – Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) organized 5-days HEC Indigenous On-Campus Training Workshop aiming to increase the capacity building and improvement of expertise of their faculty members and non-teaching staff at Professional Development Center, DUHS.
The theme of the Workshop was ‘University Governance Enhancement’.
The Inaugural Ceremony of the Workshop was held today at PDC, DUHS. Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS was the Chief Guest whereas Dr. S. A. Rab was the facilitator of the Workshop.
Dr. Rana Qamar Masood, Director, Quality Enhancement Cell & Chief Organizer of the Workshop in her welcome address mentioned about the importance of the Workshop from different aspects. She informed that HEC has introduced these workshops in order to have good governance in academic institutions of the country. Talking about governance, she informed that governance has two aspects which include technical and representative aspects. The five basic principles of good governance include transparency, effectiveness, application of rules and regulations, avoiding corruption and giving feedback. She emphasized that every individual is responsible for good governance at their own level. There should be no dependency on others for ones own performance and one should have the ability to take the responsibility himself. Every individual needs to focus on good governance at their own level. Interpersonal skills should be developed irrespective of designation as it plays an important role.
Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS in his address acknowledged the efforts of HEC in organizing such workshop for developing good governance in different institutions. He said that keeping in view the responsibilities of the institution, the Dow University has been stressing on human resource development and capacity building of faculty members. Various workshops are being organized regularly. Dr. Masood further said that good governance does not require huge funding and various tools can be used for good governance, hence training workshop are necessary.
Later on Dr. S. A. Rab facilitator of the Workshop gave a brief presentation on Leadership and Governance. The participants of the workshop were also engaged in group discussions and various activities.
