PESHAWAR – The industrial estate in the heart of provincial capital of Khyber Pakhutkhuwa (KP) continued to spread infectious diseases among the adjoining residential areas without raising any eyebrow in power corridors.
PakistanTribe‘s correspondent reported that the drainage from Hayatabad Industrial Estate has now become the prime reason of many infectious diseases in the population living nearby.
The drainage from the industrial zone was released without filtration in the the small and big streams which then flow from the residential areas. The most of the factories in the estate belong to pharmaceutical manufacturers.
One resident of the colony near Hayatabad informed PT‘s correspondent that “Unbearable smell is the first problem we receive. When out lungs get used to that unbearable smell right then we get to know that one of our family members now has skin or eye infection. Headache due to smell is also very common.”
The resident also stated that in some cases under water reservoirs were also get the contamination from deep-ground seepage of industrial waste.
PT contacted the President of KP’s Chamber of Commerce Fawad Ishaq. He said “There is no such industry which would not give out its waste. It is not the issue of industrial waste rather the root cause of problem is the lack of urban development planning. No one had thought earlier that residential areas must not be built near industrial estate.”
Speaking about the remedy, Ishaq said “With better sanitation facilities this issue can be taken care of.”
When he was reminded about the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Ishaq stated “Funds to build the basic infrastructure have been allocated. Soon this project will be initiated.”
