ISLAMABAD – The Governor Khyber Pakhutnkhuwa (KPK) Mehtab Abbasi and regional director of UNICEF Karin Hulshof have vowed to vaccinate every child against polio virus in the province.
The Governor KPK held a press conference with Hulshof on Wednesday to inform the press about next three month’s strategy.
While accepting the difficulties to conduct anti-polio drive in North and South Waziristan, Mehtab reiterated that security and safety of polio workers were made the first priority. “In Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) security of polio workers has been handover to army.”
He also informed that first and second red areas for the presence of polio sickened children were North Waziristan and Bara respectively. “Every child who was accompanied with the displaced families have been vaccinated against polio. We will end this virus soon.”
He also mentioned that elimination of polio virus was not a political cause rather a collective responsibility. “We will coordinate with the provincial government as well to manage this anti-polio drive,” he added.
On the occasion, UNICEF’s regional director Karin Hulshof maintained that her agency was looking forward to eradicate polio virus from Pakistan within next six months.
