ISLAMABAD – The 3G and 4G services launch in Pakistan has seemingly increased the imports of mobile phones from $156.92 million in 2013 (July to September) to $166 million in 2014 (July to September).
According to the official statistics released by the Government of Pakistan (GoP) a total of 5.78 per cent increase was observed within the first three months of fiscal year 2014. The figure was released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The report states “On a month-on-month basis, the imports fell by 24 per cent to $50.839 million in September this year compared to $66.8 million in August. The figure declined by 11 percent in September 2014 compared to $57.1 million in the same month of last year.”
Overall telecom imports increased by 31 percent to $406.831 million during July-September quarter from $310.523 million during the year-ago period. Not to forget that Pakistani cellular networks users were being facilitated by the 3G and 4G services in May 2014.
