KARACHI – The best leaders or the best revolutionaries are those who bring about individual change and ZABMUN is a perfect platform to create the leaders of tomorrow who are likely to cause positive change in the society.
This was said by Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, the Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Technology (SZABIST) as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of SZABIST Model United Nations (ZABMUN) 2014 held here today.
She said in her address, “Humility is an important asset, using which we need to be open to accept our mistakes and think critically rather than being judgmental.”
She said that ZABMUN is a conference with unique opportunities for the young blood. She congratulated the organizers and supporters including students of SZABIST and Karachi Youth Initiative (KYI) on arranging the conference at a large scale.
ZABMUN is run by the students of SZABIST and it aims to promote productive debate and dialogue through a series of conferences. Students from around 200 schools and universities take part in ZABMUN every year, where they learn diplomacy, negotiation and dialogue in order to get groomed into effective orators.
There was a profound sense of excitement among the delegates as the opening ceremony commenced. The recitation of the national anthem started off the proceedings.
President ZABMUN 2014, Aly Hassam, informed about the conference while saying, “This is the seventh Model United Nations conference hosted by the ZABMUN team. This year, ZABMUN has broken all previous records by recruiting almost 1900 delegates. Moreover, delegates not only across Pakistan but also from other parts of the world are taking part in the conference.”
He added that ZABMUN aims to lead the youth on a journey that is designed to shape the shifting sands of time.
Secretary General ZABMUN, Nashrah Baqi, stated, “We need to unite to rewrite the pages of history that are yet to be written.” After these words, the ceremony was officially declared opened by the Secretary General.
KYI Spokesman, Farhan Iqbal, said, “The delegates will be engaged in dialogue and discussion during 4-day ZABMUN 2014 that will continue till of October 12. They have been coached in the art of diplomacy through extensive training sessions and will be further guided on drafting resolutions and forming alliances with friendly countries.”
“By providing them with a platform to polish their debating skills and master the art of diplomacy and negotiation, ZABMUN aims to nurture the young students of today into leaders of tomorrow,” he added.
