WASHINGTON – A recent study suggests couples who meet online hit escape button faster, the journal of Cyberpsychology Behaviour and Social Networking reported.
The study explores whether break-up rates for both marital and non-marital differ depending on whether they first met online of offline.
Results show that the break-up rate for couples who met online higher regardless of their marital status. The increasing popularity of social media and mobile apps for meeting people and initiating relationship has made online dating an effective means of finding a future spouse.
“The time tested qualities of trust and intimacy still remain important factors on determining whether a couple stays together, regardless of whether they meet offline of online,” explained Brenda K Wiederhold, executive director of Virtual Reality Medical Institute, a professional medical corporation.
