Rashid Latif irked at ignoring Imran Khan from Cricket World Cup trophy engagements

Rashid Latif irked at ignoring Imran Khan from WC trophy engagements | PakistanTribe.comKARACHI:  Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has criticised the Pakistan Cricket authorities for snubbing the former great, Imran Khan while celebrating the arrival of the World Cup trophy to Pakistan.

“Pakistan won the only World Cup under Imran Khan, this is a fact and nobody can take this credit away from him. Snubbing Imran Khan, from the event, for whatever reason is unfortunate”, said Rashid Latif while talking to PakistanTribe.com.

Pakistan won the world cup in 1992 under Imran Khan who is now a political figure and a bitter rival of the ruling party. It is widely believed that Imran Khan was not taken aboard due to his ongoing rift with the incumbent Prime Minister, who is the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board as well.  Imran Khan has been on a sit-in for more than a month in Pakistan capital, Islamabad, demanding resignation of the Prime Minister.

During its stay in Pakistan, the World Cup trophy spent a day in Lahore where, apart from a ceremony, captain Misbah-ul-Haq had a photo session with it. Later in Karachi, former captain Javed Miandad was given an opportunity to pose, with the trophy, before the mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan.

“Misbah and Javed Miandad are respectable cricketers and were indeed rightly chosen for the honour, however, nobody was more deserving than Imran Khan in this regard”, added Latif.

“The trophy should have been sent to Imran Khan for the similar ritual but the authorities failed in this regard. It will go down in history as a great discrimination, I am afraid”, concluded Latif.
