ISLAMABAD – The Foreign Office of Pakistan has confirmed that there are 281 Pakistanis jailed in different prisons of China over drug trafficking and smuggling charges.
In the weekly briefing on Thursday the spokesperson of Pakistan Foreign Office Tasneem Aslam admitted the presence of Pakistani prisoners in China for the first time.
“There are about 281 Pakistanis jailed in China. 90 per cent of those were arrested for drug trafficking charges. Remaining had charges of smuggling on them,” she confirmed.
The details whether those held Pakistanis have acquired the counsel support or not was yet to be known.
Pakistan and China holds cordial relationship ever since independence. The trade between China and Pakistan is being carried out from Karakorum Road or famous Silk Route.
Chinese companies have heavily invested in the electricity generation projects in Pakistan for over past few years.
