Amid Zarb-e-Azm, Pakistan Army chief meets Afghan Ambassador

RAWALPINDI – Amid major military offensive and huge movement of Pakistani tribal families towards Afghanistan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif holds a one-on-one meeting with Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) the meeting was held on Wednesday at General Headquarters (GHQ) of Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi.

The official communique issued by the ISPR stated “During the meeting, ongoing operation in North Waziristan Agency and matters of mutual interest including measures to improve security along Pakistan-Afghanistan border were discussed.”

He also asked Afghan defence authorities to destroy Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nuristan provinces where fleeing Taliban militants from Pakistan and getting shelter and support and carry out attacks on Pakistan border areas.

Sources said this is the first diplomatic contact by Pakistan Army with Afghanistan since formal military operation in North Waziristan tribal region was launched on Sunday.

Afghan ambassador assured that Afghanistan would extend full cooperation to Pakistan in its ongoing operation against militants in NW region and that the message to destroy the hideouts would be conveyed to top Afghan defence authorities.

Its pertinent to mention here that PakistanTribe reported on 14 June that tribal families from North Waziristan are taking refuge in Afghanistan‘s neighboring province of Khost where a refugee camp was established and at least 50,000 people have registered themselves there.
