Pakistan military to get Russian helicopters to combat outlawed TTP

ISLAMABAD – As the armed forces beefed up the military operation against outlawed militants of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Pakistan almost near to close a deal to purchase latest gunship helicopters from Russia.

According to the information made public by the Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Alexey Dedov, talks were underway regarding the provision of modern gunship helicopters to Pakistan and soon Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz would visi Moscow from June 18-20 in this regard.

During a press briefing the Russian Ambassador told that Pakistan has placed an order for the purchase of Mi-35M helicopters from Russia. He said that talks are ongoing in this regard, while there were no sanctions imposed on Pakistan in defense sector.

Alexey Dedov told that Pakistan’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz will be visiting Moscow from June 18-20, regarding the purchase of Mi-35M. He added that these choppers can be used for multiple purposes.

The Russian Ambassador said that Russia is concerned about increasing terrorism in Pakistan and his country will provide all possible assistance to Pakistan for counter-terrorism.

Dedov further said that security in the region will be a major challenge, once the NATO forces withdraw from Afghanistan.


Its is a multipurpose military transport helicopter for combat missions on day-and-night basis in adverse weather conditions. It is intended for destruction of enemy armored vehicles, supporting fire for ground units, landing of troops, evacuation of wounded, as well as cargo transportation in cargo cabin and on external sling. Mi-35M is to the maximum proximate to the new generation helicopters. Long-term operational experience is combined in this aircraft with the latest achievements and developments in helicopter industry.
