Urdu Anjuman Berlin pays tribute to Krishan Chandar, Ehsan Danish and Ahmad Abbas

BERLIN: Urdu Anjuman Berlin celebrated the 100th Birth Anniversary of Krishan Chandar, Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and Ehsan Danish last week in Berlin. Large number of Indian, Pakistani and German enthusiasts attended the colorful event.

President Urdu Anjuman Berlin Arif Naqvi, welcoming the guests stated that Urdu Anjuman is open to all people who like the humanist and progressive values of Urdu language and literature, irrespective of their religion and nationality.

The event included a seminar on the message of humanism, peace, friendship and social justice in the writings of these great Urdu writers, sub continental music, documentary shots about these writers and a Mushaira. Dr. Khalid Alvi of Delhi University was Chief Guest of the event whereas; Karachi based writer Mubashir Ali Zaidi and UK based poet Farzana Farhat were the special guests on the occasion. The event started with performance of sitar and tabla.

During the seminar Dr. Khalid Alvi, outlined the contributions of Khwaja Ahmad Abbas in the field of literature, journalism and film and social life. He said that Abbas was not only a great artist he was also a fine a human being, who always shared the pains and worries of others and helped them. Abbas also introduced great names in the film industry such as Sahir Ludhiyanvi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sarekha, Jalal Agha, Shahnaz Agha and miss India Sis Khambata etc.

Mubashar Ali Zaidi and Arif Naqvi spoke in detail about Krishan Chandar. Where Zaidi mentioned many short stories and novels of Krisdhan Chandar and quoted interesting passages. Naqvi, who has had the pleasure to know Krishan Chandar personally, referred among other things about the plays written by Krishan Chandar. He mentioned especially¬† ‘Sarai ke bahar’ and ‘Kutte ki Maut’, broadcast by All India Radio in fiftees, in which Arif Naqvi also acted.

Ishrat Zaheer Seema discussed how the message of humanism and social justice is reflected in the poetry of Ehsan Danish. Danish was himself a worker and understood the problems of common men. He wrote beautiful ghazals, nazms and literary articles.

The evening came to end with a mushaira (poetry recitation), presided by Arif Naqvi. Whereas, Dr. Khalid Alvi from India, Rishi Khan from Pakistan, Farzana Farhat from U.K., Shah ji from Hamburg, Arif Naqvi, Hanif Tamanna, Rukhsar Anjum, Ishrat Moin Seema, Mohd Irshad, Hindi poet Sushila Sharma, Punjabi poet Harbajan Kaur, German poet Dele Grunwald presented their poems.
