ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Defence ready to take on Geo Group’s defamation charge and also vowed to appeal against the ‘nominal’ punishment even when found guilty.
Federal Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif revealed on Saturday that his ministry was not satisfied with the verdict against Geo News.
“Even when Geo was found guilty of committing the mistake, the proposed punishment of 15 days ban and Rs 10 million fine was not enough. Court will be moved to increase the penalty,” he said while representing the stance of his ministry.
Khawaja also said that as Geo has sued Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Ministry of Defence with a defamation suit, we are ready to take on the matter in court of law.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had banned Geo’s license for 15 days and impose a fine of Rs 10 million for maligning the ISI after the alleged assassination attempt on Hamid Mir.
