RAWALPINDI – The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has not been informed in an official capacity by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and but the proposed punishment is not enough, maintained a representative.
According to the televised reports, MoD rejected any such rumors that today’s PEMRA’s decision to suspend Geo News’ license was a result of any deal.
Spokesperson of MoD says that after looking at a detailed decision any further action will be sought.
Moreover, the private members of PEMRA i.e Israr Abbasi, Mian Shams and Fareeha Iftikhar have also vowed to move Supreme Court over this ‘biased’ decision.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s spokesperson Shireen Mazari has also maintained “This is a joke. Geo has blatantly made fun of national security institutes for eight consecutive hours and only 15 days’ suspension would compensate everything?”
Geo Network’s Stance
After the suspension orders, Geo News has maintained that PEMRA has been punishing Geo for more than a month. The group has suffered the loss of Rs 2 billion.
Its also pertinent to mention here that Geo and Jang group has sent a legal notice to Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), MoD and PEMRA for maligning the group without evidence. The group want monitory compensation of Rs 50 billion or answer within 14 days.
