ISLAMABAD – The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sung the ‘improving economy through middle class youth’ mantra and termed the Youth Business Loan Scheme a turning point for the country.
Nawaz Sharif was addressing the second draw of Youth Loan Scheme at Convention Center in Islamabad.
Hitting on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Nawaz Sharif “I would say to those who always talk about the youth that come up with a plan of your own”.
Nawaz gave the example of Japan, Germany and UK where the middle class youth were given the access to resources and in return they built their respective economies. Germany had 80 percent population with no access to resources. But it was provided and then they built a strong economy,” he added.
Nawaz Sharif also gave the news for those who wanted to start the dairy farming business that now government would pay the for the free insurance of their live stock.
Under Youth Business Loan Scheme 400 applicants were awarded the cheques today.
Nawaz Sharif also congratulate Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for presenting a ‘good budget’. “Mr Dar and his team had not slept for 36 hours until yesterday. They deserve applause on this effort,” Nawaz added.
At one point he said “I had the idea of Youth Loan Scheme ever since 1990s. But it could only be transformed into reality in 2013. I am happy that it was one of the first schemes out government initiated. We collaborated with National Bank but they too had no expertise to deal with the prospects of the scheme. We guided them as well. The money in the bank belongs to the people of Pakistan and not only to few rich. In past if a poor wanted to get a loan of Rs 100,000 then no one would give him even Rs 10,000. But that is a gone case now.”
