SAHIWAL – Lahore to Karachi motorway is no longer a blueprint plan now as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has revealed the allocation of Rs 55 billion to acquire the land for the mega project.
Nawaz Sharif was addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of Sahiwal Coal Power Project on Friday when he reiterated his government’s commitment to build the Lahore-Karachi Motorway.
He said that this mega project would become the backbone of trade in Pakistan.
Speaking about the electricity crisis in Pakistan, Nawaz said “The current capacity of Pakistan’s installed system is to generate more than 23,000 MW of electricity. But the reality irks me that we are producing far less than that. But I affirm you that within eight years we are going to add at least 21,000 MW of electricity in the national grid.”
Nawaz Sharif overwhelmingly thanked China and Chinese companies for their support and assistance in many mega projects in Pakistan.
He said “China is great friend of Pakistan and helped through thick and thin.”
Earlier he laid foundation stone of two coal power plants at Qadirabad, Punjab which would be fully functional till 2016 to generate 1320 MW of electricity.
Nawaz Sharif was accompanying Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Water and Pwer Khawaja Asif and Sate Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Friday while laying the foundation stone.
