LAHORE – Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said on Tuesday that the officers, JCOs and recruits from the 1948 war of independence of Kashmir is till today have proved that they are ready to render sacrifices in every kind of challenges facing by the country.
He said Pakistan army salutes the martyr sons. He said the families of martyred army personnel or those who died during the service receive nearly Rs15 million, adding now the families of the martyred or dead army personnel are being given free of cost flats.
Army chief Ashfaq Kayani was addressing a ceremony of JCOs’ Soldiers housing insurance scheme and distributed flat keys among the survivors of the martyrs. The 800 flats have been constructed in DHA Lahore.
General Kayani said that Pakistan Army is proud of the sacrifices made by its soldiers and officers and will also continue to support their families.
He went on to say that the housing facility is for every single soldier of Pakistan Army, even the under training soldiers are entitled to avail this facility. He told that the survivors of the martyrs will have the ownership of the flats; however, they will not be allowed to sell it off until their children achieve adolescence.
“This scheme is only for those who embraced martyrdom during their services, their families can live there, or rent it out,” General Kayani said. He said the officer who dies in young age and his children are very little then it would be mandatory for the families to sell the flats when the children achieve adolescence. He said that the market price of the flats presently is at Rs five to six million.
COAS Kayani also announced to introduce more residential projects for the Army officers and soldiers, and to include Azad Kashmir Regiment in the scheme. He said that the personnel of the civil armed forces would also be included in the scheme, adding that the people of the civil armed forces are also playing vital role in fighting the war against terrorism.
He said that civil armed forces cannot be neglected as they have supported Pakistan Army on every front including war against terrorism.
He paid a rich tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives while protecting human lives and national sovereignty. The Army Chief highly lauded valuable sacrifices of the armed forces.
He said that four hundred flats will also be established‚ under this scheme‚ in next phase which will be extended up to six thousand housing flats.
Kayani said that the army is taking all possible steps for the welfare of the martyrs’ families, adding that the current scheme is launched with this intention.
He said that the army will continue housing schemes for the benefit of the families, adding each flat has a good market price.
General Kayani also paid rich tribute to the officers who have contributed in the completion of the scheme.
Earlier, Gen. Kayani handed over keys and allotment papers to the heirs of the martyrs. Currently the project has been started from 1st October 2011.
