Who hanged the banners against top judge? Supreme Court orders probe

Jawad S Khawaja

ISLAMABAD – The bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan has finally ordered to probe the case of mysterious banners criticizing the top judge of the highest apex court, Justice Jawad S Khawaja.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan was hearing the Geo’s case filed by the Independent Media Group (company that owns Geo Network) on Monday during which the court asked to file a detailed report regarding the banners.

The court ordered Secretary Interior and Director General Intelligence Bureau (DG IB) to file a report regarding banners displayed in red zone of federal capital within next 24 hours.

“If unknown hands can display such banners in red zone then they can do anything,” court noted in the decision on Monday. The order further stated “Today its only few banners. Tomorrow it can be anything else.”

The court adjourned the hearing hearing until 28 May.

Justice Jawad S Khawaja was accused of holding biased against the plaintiffs. Its pertinent to mention here that ARY’s bureau chief Sabir Shakir presented the objection in Supreme Court on Thursday over the composition of the bench which would hear the case of Geo News.

In the objection, it was maintained by Lucman that as the top judge had relations with Mir Shakeelur Rehman so he must disassociate from the case.

Accepting his relationship with Mir Shakeelur Rehman, Justice Khawaja refused to leave the bench citing his right to hear any case. Although he remarked that judges are not holy cows who cannot be opposed but also asked PEMRA’s representative that what action had been taken against the talkshow that maligned the judiciary. Thus, on Friday, PEMRA officials sought an explanation over the programme on the immediate basis.
