ISLAMABAD – Chairman Organizing Committee of Asian Parliamentary Assembly Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed has said a significant power shift has been taking place from West to Asia and being a vibrant democracy in South Asia, Pakistan has a key role to play in the evolving circumstances.
In a media conference in Islamabad, he said Senate will host the three-day 6th Plenary Session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) on 8th of next month. He said it will be for the first time in parliamentary history of Pakistan that such a huge conference will be held, which will be attended by over two-hundred delegates from world parliaments.
Throwing light on the theme of the conference, he said delegates from forty countries will deliberate on economy, energy, security and environmental issues of Asian continent. He said hosting such a huge conference is an honor for Pakistan, which will enable the country to promote its positive image.
He said the conference will also discuss the NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan and its consequences on Asia, especially the neighboring countries. Welcoming the agreement between the leading six world powers and Iran, he said Pakistan has always urged United States and other powers to find the solution of Iran issue through dialogue. He hoped the agreement will have encouraging results on the region.
Regarding participant countries, Mushahid Hussain said so far twenty-five countries have confirmed their participation. He said the government of Pakistan will ensure foolproof security of the delegates.
