Shahid Afridi

LAHORE – Start cricket of Pakistan Shahid Afridi criticized India for not standing with Pakistani cricket even when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan government had always given first priority to India.

Boom-Boo Afridi was speaking to media persons in Lahore on Friday when he said that India’s role never remained helpful towards Pakistan.

“We have given them number one status. PCB and government have always supported them but India can never stand with us. Barring Pakistani players from Indian Premier League (IPL) has sent a very negative message all over the world,” Afridi added.

Replying to a question, Afrid said that being the captain of Pakistani cricket team is no less than a great honor. “I had a desire of being the captain. I still have it. I think even a young player would have this desire. But this post is not a bed of roses,” he said.

When asked about the differences between him and newly appointed coach and former speed star Waqar Younis, Afridi replied “If Wiki Bhai and Shahid Afrid had not learnt from their past mistakes then we would not move ahead an inch.”

Commenting over the domestic cricket in country, legendary start said “PCB should maintain a good academy in every major city so that players can avail the facility. Without this domestic cricket structure cannot be laid in the country.”

When asked about how to deal with the corruption and match fixing in the cricket, he said International Cricket Council (ICC) had an anti-corruption team so better ask them. “I only know how to deal with the ball..,” he said in lighter mood.

Welfare Projects

Shahid Afridi, smilingly responded to another question when asked about his social and welfare projects. He said “There was a project of constructing 60,000 houses for the flood victims in Sindh. That project is almost finished. Another hospital in Sindh has been constructed and only its launching is pending. My responsibility is not only to play cricket. There are people and areas in interior Sindh, South Punjab and KPK who need assistance.”

When asked who was assisting him in the projects, he said “When you are determined for the cause of welfare then you get assistance from good people. There are some people who have been helping in making medical laboratories. But to be honest as long as I am playing cricket, I do not want to share the burden with others.”
