ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has reportedly issued show cause notices to at least three private members of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for violating the authority.
According to the sources from inside PEMRA, government issued notices to Israr Abbasi, Fareeha Iftikhar and Mian Shams for holding a separate meeting in which they ordered to suspend the licenses of Geo Network.
However, when approached, Israr Abbasi maintained “There is no provision in PEMRA’s rules to issue notices to members. But if government want to do that then lets have it.”
Commenting over the reasons behind any such notice he said “I have not received any notice so far. So I feel its the same tactic for which few days back a fake spokesperson of PEMRA emerged and issued a bogus press release without any signature. We are private members of PEMRA and receiving no salary. But there are some snakes in the sleeves of government who keep dragging it in the matter.”
