ISLAMABAD – The appointment of justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas as new chief election commissioner is likely to be finalized in few days in result of the backdoor-channel contacts between Pakistan’s federal government and the opposition.
According to Pakistan’s leading news channel Geo, the backdoor contacts and negotiations are continue between the government and the opposition.
The prime minister has also held consultations with his aides for the appointment of the chief election commissioner. The names of justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas and justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan were also under consideration.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will send these names to Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Shah in next few days.
After the consultation of the prime minister and opposition leader the notification of justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas appointment as CEC will be issued.
It is worth mentioning here that the name of justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas was proposed by opposition leader for NAB chairman post but due to some legal hurdles his name was excluded for the NAB chairman post.
Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas has served as senior-most judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and also served as Chairman Federal Public Service Commission.
