Akram Sheikh

ISLAMABAD – The special prosecutor against former President General (rtd) Pervez Musharraf in high treason case, senior advocate Akram Sheikh has once again stunned the Special Court with his arguments.

According to the court correspondent of PakistanTribe the Special Court convened on Wednesday for the hearing of high treason trial against Musharraf.

After receiving the copy of Federal Investigation Authority (FIA)’s investigation report, the court presided by Justice Faisal Arab gave the half an hour break to defence and prosecution to prepare the list of witnesses to be called for testimony before the court.

When court reconvened, Justice Faizal Arab questioned the prosecutor Akram Sheikh for not including the name of Secretary Interior who actually signed the application to start the case against Pervez Musharraf.

Upon this, Akram Sheikh stunned the court saying “There is no such law which bounds Secretary Interior to appear before the Special Court. He was only bound to sign the application and nothing more”.

Justice Arab countered Sheikh saying “How is it possible that everyone else appear for testimony except the one who signed the application to start the entire case?”

It is pertinent to mention here that Akran Sheikh, defending right of government not to provide FIA’s investigation report to Musharraf’s lawyers. Sheikh termed any such act as against the law. However, later he had to provide the report to Musharraf’s lawyer.

Moreover, the head of Musharraf’s legal team Barrister Farogh Naseem said “Now it would be easier to defend his client.”
