SARGODHA – In an unfortunate incident, at least eight schoolchildren suffered burn injuries when a private school van caught fire in Bhalwal area of Sargodha district.
Rescue workers rushed to the scene and immediately shifted the children to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Bhalwal.
The incident took place around 7 am on Monday morning when the school van was picking up the students to be dropped at school. It was confirmed that there were more than a dozen students in the van.
However, the local residents were the first respondents to the incident and extinguished the flames. Later, the rescue workers joined in within few minutes and shifted the injured children to the hospital.
The children were aging between eight and 12 years. Two of them are said to be in critical state.
Police were investigating causes of the fire. Causes of the fire could not be ascertained immediately. However, vehicle catching fire incident are very common in Pakistan due to: First, illegal use of low quality gas cylinders. Second, using petrol as the fuel but in a separate jerrycan.
