Local Police say 16-year-old Ankita Lavender called her dad Tuesday night, claiming two men had forced her into a truck. When she was found four hours later, police determined she made up the story because she wanted sympathy after a recent breakup with her boyfriend.
On Tuesday night, Lavender called her father and told him two men had pulled her into a white truck. Her family alerted police, who issued an Amber Alert and sent 40 officers to look for the teen.
The four-hour search cost between $5,000 and $7,000, Jacksonville’s WTEV reports.
Police found her several hours later, lying on her back on the side of a road. She claimed had been thrown from the truck.
But she had no injuries. After overnight questioning, police determined the teen’s story was a hoax.
Investigators could file a misdemeanor charge against Lavender for her false police report. Because she’s a juvenile, charges against her will not her made public.
