LAHORE – Taking recommendation of one of its director seriously, Pakistan Cricket Board has started working to end departmental cricket. The new format, which is recommended, is regional based teams, which will be sponsored by departments.
In this regard, a four-member committee has been set up with Zaheer Abbas as its chairman. Other members include Shakeel Sheikh, Iqbal Qasim and Haroon ur Rasheed.
This committee will prepare its recommendation after reviewing departmetns, regionald and district cricket.
Former coach Mohsin Khan has termed the proposed move as the fatal one.
“It will affect thousands of players and officials,” he said.
“Players usually remain active in cricket till 36 to 37, after which they get facilities and pension from their departments, a thing totally ignored in regional cricket.”
