ISLAMABAD – In a ceremony held to mark Youm-e-Shuhada (Martyrs Day) and honour the armed forces personnel, Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif said that the sacrifices and blood of the martyrs will not go in vain, PakistanTribe.com reported.
Pakistan’s army chief has paid tribute to the personnel of Pak armed forces, stressing that their role in maintaining peace and stability in the country will always be remembered.
The COAS asserted that the armed forces were keeping an eye on all internal and external threats and will act accordingly to shield the country.
General Sharif said that despite facing multiple difficulties, Pakistan is heading towards prosperity and progress.
In his speech, he said that Kashmir is the lifeline of Pakistan and stressed that the ‘sacrifices of Kashmiris will never be forgotten.
He further said that Kashmir is an international dispute.
“The United Nations resolutions are there and a solution according to the wishes of Kashmiris is a must for regional peace and security.”
“The Army supports each and every effort to restore peace,” he said, and added: “All anti-state elements should come join national mainstream.”
General Sharif said the people of Pakistan have always supported Army and “it’s the nation which actually fights the wars.”
He hoped that with each new day, the relations between the civilians and the armed forces will continue to strengthen.
In his speech, he highlighted that 20,000 Baloch youngsters joined the Pakistan armed forces as officers and soldiers, reflecting confidence from Balochistan.
The army chief also highlighted that the armed forces’ role in establishing global peace was significant, with a large number of UN forces comprising Pakistanis.
He appreciated the role played by the civil society and Pakistani media.
“We believe in freedom of the press and responsible journalism,” he said.
Wrapping up his speech, General Sharif said that the armed forces were keeping a watchful eye on all threats.
“Our martyrs blood will not go in vain. It is our duty to give the next generation a stable and prosperous Pakistan.”
