QUETTA – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to not ignore Balochistan as Uch-II power plant of 404 MW capacity adds its power generation in national grid with the help of a France based power generating company.
Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Uch-II Power Plant on Friday in a bid to cut short the duration of loadshedding in coming summers.
The new power generation would produce electricity with the help of gas as fuel and already added the 404 MW of electricity in the national grid.
Nawaz Sharif, after the inaugural ceremony, addressed the audience in which he mainatined that now Balochistan would not be ignored in the past.
“We all know that shortage of electricity has caused out country a great deal of trouble. Better living standard and development all depends on the continuous availability of electric power. Within no time, we had provided monitory assistance to settle the circular debt for Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Moreover, our government has revived the national projects of 959 MW in Neelam-Jehlum and 425 MW project in Nandi Pur. In next two and half years, we would be able to eliminate the shortfall of power,” he added.
Nawaz Sharif also vowed to add the power generation capacity in next five years which would be equal to the total power generating capacity built in last 65 years.
“We are thinking ahead for next twenty-five years. The total installed power generating capacity in Pakistan is around 23,000 MW but due to many reasons like water levels in the rivers, we could only be able to commissioned around 12,000 MW of electricity. Therefore, in coming years, we would be installing more power projects to reduce the gap,” said Nawaz Sharif.
The Uch-II power project of 404 MW was installed with the help of GDF SUEZ.
GDF is a global energy player and an expert operator in the three key sectors of electricity, natural gas and energy services. The Group supports changes in society that are based as much on economic growth as on, social progress and the preservation of natural resources.
Nawaz Sharif also requested GDF in his speech to show their interest in other power generation projects as well.
Gas for Domestic Use in Balochistan
At the end of his speech, the premier also announced to provide gas for domestic use in each and every area of Balochistan. He said that federal minister for petroleum and minerals Shahid Khaqan Abbasi would personally supervise the project.
