LAHORE – Criticising the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf’s announcement to block Nato supplies through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Senator Pervez Rashid said on Saturday that the party’s rally in Peshawar was “nothing more than a farce.”
He said Pakistan does not want to fight with US and Taliban and wants to resolve the issues through dialogues. He said PML-N wants to give peace to Pakistanis. He said the matter of Parvez Musharraf is in court and law will take its course, adding that the courts are independent in Pakistan.
He was talking to media after the certificate distribution ceremony of the Post Election Reporting Media Training Course in Lahore. He said the federal government will take decision at the time when any untoward situation regarding the Nato supply will emerge in the country.
He said that the PML-N wants to resolve the issue of drone strikes through diplomatic sources, adding that such a hype should not be created, which will give rise to jingoistic atmosphere in country.
He said resulting this situation Pakistan scuffle with others and others scuffle with Pakistan. He said Pakistan could not bear this situation.
Rashid said: “The problem cannot be solved by waging a war against the US or the Taliban. Peace dialogue and negotiations are the only solutions.”
Rashid said that Pakistan cannot afford to pick a battle with friendly nations by blocking Nato supplies through the country Pakistan.
He further said that PTI chief Imran Khan and his party have an incongruity in its policies and actions over the drone attacks issue.
He accused the PTI of taking money in aid from the US on one hand, and threatening to block Nato supplies on the other hand.
The PTI should “stop taking dollars from the US” before issuing threats to stop Nato supplies, he said.
Information Minister said that Pakistan is a democratic country where everyone has right to favour or oppose any government decision and policy.
He said that on one side‚ the PTI as a party is protesting against the drone attacks while its provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would remain aloof.
Information Minister, Pervaiz Rashid urged the United States to end drone attacks on Pakistan’s territory.
The Minister said drone attacks are not acceptable to us in any circumstances and they must be stopped. Similarly, he said, the foreign nationals, who are sitting in Pakistan, are also not acceptable as they are a challenge for the peace and sovereignty.
He said that in order to solve the drone attacks issue, the government of Pakistan is playing its role at the diplomatic level for solving it through dialogue, as now the whole world has now reduced to a global village. For this purpose, Pakistan has taken up this matter at the United Nations, USA administration and other international platforms.
About the American Aid, he said that the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif has decided not to use it the province for the development purpose, on which he is committed. Replying a question he said the matter of Parvez Musharraf is in court and law will take its course, adding that there is rule of law in Pakistan, adding that this not a time when the people were removed through one executive order and people were sent behind bars and people were hanged.
Earlier, addressing the women participants in the electronic media training course, he urged the women journalists to play their role in bringing the truth to the masses.
