WEB DESK – The Punjab Police has traced down the attackers of famous news anchor Raza Rumi and figured out that assassins with active links to outlawed sectarian militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) was behind the assassination attempt on the journalist in Lahore.
The Chief City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhry Shafique Gujjar hold a press conference in Lahore according to which a six member hit-gang of LeJ was traced and apprehended from Lahore. The gang eventually confessed to at least 18 criminal assaults.
Gujjar also claimed that LeJ gang carried out attack on famous anchorperson Raza Rumi, drama writer and scholar Asghar Nadeem Syed, one of their own leader Maulana Shamsur Rehman Muavia, Shakir Ali Rizvi, Dr Syed Ali Haider, Khurram Raza Qadri and Allama Nasir Abbas.
CCPO also maintained that preliminary investigation has revealed the sectarian and communal motives behind the plotted assassinations.
The names of those arrested are Abdur Rauf, Sabir Shah, Sheikh Farhan, Shafaqat Farooqi, Muhammad Hashim and Salman Pathan.
Gujjar confirmed that the group of six sectarian assassins have successfully assassinated 16 out of their 18 targets.
