Doctors in Pakistan not capable to write standard prescriptions: Research

WEB DESK – Research conducted by a team of doctors in Peshawar’s six medical facilities has revealed that majority of the medical specialists are not able to write international standard prescriptions.

The research revealed that doctors in Pakistan are mostly writing prescriptions for those costly medicines whose manufacturers provide perks to them.

It further stated that internationally the standard of one prescription should have maximum two medicines but average prescription by Pakistani medical experts holds 3.2 medicines.

Research also concluded that majority of the prescriptions lack the exact amount of doze and instructions to take it.

The central leader of Pakistan Medical Association, Dr Qaisar Sajjad, when approached denied the findings of the research.

He said that in the presence of as many as 600,000 fake doctors in Pakistan, how can be such researched be so accurate?

He further stated, “I admit that ground realities are horrible. But people have the choice not to go to see those kind of doctors. Moreover, there has to be a law to stop a doctor from prescribing a certain medicine. If there is no direct law then it should be created.”

Every year in US, where medical field has the most consumer friendly laws, nearly 60,000 patients die due to wrong prescriptions by the medical experts. However, in Pakistan a thorough research must be conducted to dig out horrible statistics.
