ISLAMABAD – For the first time after ‘undue criticism’ the federal defence minister is meeting the military top command today in Prime Minister House as summit of National Security Council has been summoned by the prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
The defence minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif would be facing the chief of army staff General Raheel Sharif and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lt General Zaheerul Islam during the National Security Council’s meeting.
The meeting would be chaired by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself. The other participants of the meeting are Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, foreign affairs’ adviser to he premier Tariq Fatimi and federal secretary interior Mr Asif. The chief if Intelligence Bureau (IB) – intelligence agency directly under Prime Minister’s control – would also be attending the top security meeting.
Moreover, federal information minister Pervaiz Rashid, federal finance minister Ishaq Dar and services chiefs of Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy would also attend the meeting.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s federal ministers would be meeting the military top brass for the first time after a series of controversial statements which had reportedly irked the Pakistan Army’s institutional integrity.
