The legendary Ultimate Warrior – who passed away last week just days after being inducted into the Hall of Fame – was honoured with a moving video recapping his career at the beginning of Monday Night’s show.
Meanwhile, the entire roster gathered on the stage as Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler asked those in attendance to observe a moments silence as they rang out a 10-bell salute for the late icon.
WWE owner Vince McMahon made a rare appearance on television along with his daughter Stephanie and son-in-law Triple H, while the likes of Cody Rhodes struggled to hold back tears as they reflected on the life and career of Warrior.
Throughout the night, some of his best moments were played as the company paid their respects to the star – who died due to cardiovascular disease, as PT has mentioned in earlier report.
While hundreds of fans were seen wearing Warrior masks in the crowd, WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos also wore their face paint in the legend’s trademark style.
The show continued as normal, but the impact of the star’s passing was felt for its duration – just as his influence on today’s roster is evident from the outpouring of emotion following his death.
Ultimate Warrior made his final appearance on Raw last week, during which he spoke about the fans defining legends.
He said: “You will decide if they lived with the passion and intensity. So much so that you will tell your stories and you will make them legends, as well.
“I am The Ultimate Warrior. You are the Ultimate Warrior fans and the spirit of Ultimate Warrior will run forever.”
