According to the police sources, the Islamabad Police arrested a suspect from the vegetable market minutes after the bomb blast left nearly 23 people dead and more than 40 injured.
Name and origin of the arrested person was not disclosed by the police.
The planted bomb detonated around 8 am on Wednesday in Islamabad Vegetable Market located in sector I-11 which is the junction of twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The rescue and police officials reached the crime scene immediately and shifted the wounded and those deceased to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
PIMS officials confirmed 23 as deceased dead bodies and over 40 injured men. Some of the wounded were categorized as seriously injured.
Preliminary police investigations confirmed that bomb blast was planted inside wooden boxes of fruits. No militant group had accepted the responsibility of the blast so far. Its worth mentioning here that in Islamabad Vegetable Market there were absolutely no security measures at the entrance or exit points of the market.
The area also neighbors a slum of afghan refugees and there were at least two higher education institutes within few yards of the place. Moreover, there were also many government offices near the area.
