Blast in stationed train at Sibi Railway Station killed 12 passengers, injured 30

WEB DESK – A powerful blast in one of the stationed trains at Sibi Railway station killed at least six passengersand injured as many as 30 as all of the train passengers were trapped inside the train-box as it caught fire.

According to the preliminary reports, the rescue workers rushed at the scene and started relief operation on Tuesday afternoon at Sibi Railway Station.

Khawaja Saad Rafique, the federal minister for railways, confirmed the casualties of 12 passengers in the fatal accident.

The train attacked was on one Jafer Express stationed at the Sibi stop and passengers were wandering at the platform waiting for the green signal to continue their further journey. The blast took place at box number 9 of the train.

Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that 20 injured persons had been shifted to Civil Hospital Sibi.

Emergency and rescue teams reached the site and began shifting the casualties to hospitals for treatment. The victims included women and children.

Rescue sources said that more than 30 people were wounded in the blast.

An emergency was imposed at Civil Hospital Sibi and according to reports there was no surgeon present at the facility which was also facing a shortage of medicines and other resources.

Following the blast the boogey has caught fire and eye witnesses say passengers are still trapped inside.  The nature of the blast is not known and Railways officials say they are probing the incident.
